Hi, We Want To Raise $50,000 In a Few Days

May 26, 2010

We have crazy idea that we can raise about $50,000 in a matter of days to make sure Montclair’s Independence Day celebration happens as vividly and completely it has in recent years. We know the odds are against us. I guess we’re tapping into that same wide-eyed optimism that our very nation was built upon. The “About ‘Save The Celebration'” page will provide a few details about this blog and what we hope to accomplish.

While it would be redundant to restate all of them here, there are a couple of points worth clarifying.

Who are “we?” We includes anyone who doesn’t want to see the tough economy rain on Montclair’s parade or picnic. We is made up of people who would rather light a Roman candle than curse the darkness. We, the people, in order to hold the best Independence Day celebration possible, believe the community of Montclair can join together to provide what is at risk of being canceled.

Why are we calling it “Independence Day” and not the “4th of July?” This year, July 4th falls on a Sunday. Because there are many houses of worship in Montclair that will be holding services that morning, the township has decided to hold any Independence Day events on Monday, July 5th instead.

One thing we are not is a forum to to criticize, taunt or vex any public officials, neighbors, marching bands, baseball teams or anyone else.

There isn’t much time. We need to maintain focus on reaching our goal as soon as possible. This blog will aim to track the progress of any and all efforts to reach the goal of raising $50,000 in a few days for Montclair’s Independence Day celebration. So check in with us often to see how things going.
